GPS Tracks

Describe your thinking as you used the tracks function on the GPS to write your name.

  1. I had a hard time writing my name on the GPS. You really have to go in a straight line if you want to have your name written nicely in the gadget. I was certainly not able to do that. I struggled to go in a consistent direction. When I tried going in a different direction to write my next letter of my name, I got confused in which direction to go. However, at the end of the day I was able to have the first three letters of my name on my GPS. It wasn't as nice as it couldn't have been, but I learned different things from it. I knew that you need to have a good plan in which direction you want to start off so that you don't get to a point where you have no space to move.

  2. What I was thinking as I tried to write my name with the tracks function on the GPS was that it was going to be real difficult to spell out so many letters on such a tiny field. It took a long time to just track down 4 letters of my name. If you use the lines on the football field you could easily make even, straight letters all the same size, which I found extremely helpful. As long as I remembered to turn the track function on and off when I started walking and didn't run into any bushes on the far end of the field I found the tracking function to write my name very useful and fun!

  3. The first time I tried to write my name on the field, it looked like it had been scribbled by a two year old giant. I didn't use reference points and landmarks on the field to help me, just the screen of the GPS device. The slight inaccuracy of the device and the subtle lag in the loading of the image really screwed me up. The next time I tried to write my name, I wrote it in a field that had lines pained on it at intervals. I looked at my GPS less as I wrote and focused mostly on the lines on the field. It actually looked like my name. I also practiced navigating by drawing spirals on the field and drawing a large flower on the basketball court.

  4. Writing my name with the GPS my first time I didn't really have a specific plan. I pretty much just started walking. My first trial ended up just fine, but there were places I knew I could improve. So, with my next trial, I decided to walk a straight line by looking at lines on the football field. I would more or less only watch the ground and not the GPS. In doing that, I was very successful and made my name pretty perfect. I learned that you can't try to hard or it will turn out worse then if you would relax.

  5. I had a hard time trying to write my name. It took me five tries to get it right. I also learned that in doing it that you just need to relax and take your time in doing it.

  6. I actually had little difficulty writing my name. I just used the same process I use when drawing my name on an Etch-a-Sketch. The only difference was that I had to walk it out in real life, instead of turning knobs. The only thing you have to remember is to take you time and not get stressed out.
